As followers of Jesus, we are called to share the story of God and His love for humanity.

“And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

– Mark 16:15

God’s story is both simple and complex. At ground level, the Story is a thousand different threads, each providing instruction and counsel. Examined from a higher elevation, we see these threads divinely woven together to create a single beautiful narrative.

It is our privilege and our pleasure to share this beautiful story with those who have not yet heard it.

But, here is the problem.

I often get stuck at ground level. I try my hardest to keep it simple but get lost in all the wonderful details of how God relates to man. I am absolutely in awe of those who can present His Story in all its complexity with precision and elegance (like John and the Holy Spirit, for example).

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

– John 3:16

A few days ago, I stumbled upon The Bible Project, a Website that presents short animated videos that clearly and concisely address core truths about God and His relationship with mankind. Each video tackles one core Biblical concept or book. They are a triumph of simplicity. If you’re looking for a deep dive into theology with exploration of all major doctrinal viewpoints, you will likely be disappointed.

If you are looking for an excellent example of how to explain the Biblical concepts that Evangelical Christians pin their hope to, you will like the work posted on The Bible Project site.

Tim Mackie and Jonathan Collins of Portland, Oregon founded the project in 2014. Tim has a PhD in Semitic Languages and Biblical Studies. He serves as a Pastor at Portland’s Door of Hope Church and is a professor of Bible at Western Seminary. Jonathan is co-founder of Epipheo and the founder of Sincerely Truman, communication companies that find innovative ways to make difficult concepts understandable.

The Bible Project is a relatively new venture, so the videos you will find there today represent only a fraction of the work that the founders intend to complete. They utilize “crowdfunding” for each new video, so if you’re of a mind to, you can support the creation of videos on additional topics or books of the Bible. Or, you can just enjoy and share what is already there.

FYI – A visit to The Bible Project website will also point you to additional teaching videos at Door of Hope Church and Tim’s personal Website.
