Learn About Getting Baptized

Baptism FAQ

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross to pay for the sins of all mankind, that whoever places their faith in Christ as their Savior will live with Him forever. Apart from putting our trust in Jesus as a holy sacrifice for us, there is no other way to be in a right relationship with God.

Baptism symbolizes our acceptance of this gift of salvation and being welcomed into the family of God. Through baptism, we announce and celebrate this life-changing reconciliation with God.

Everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior should be baptized.

Jesus instructed us to be baptized and to baptize others. Even though it’s unnecessary for salvation, baptism is an act of obedience to God that demonstrates our submission to Him.

Baptism is a big deal here at Grace. After all, what could possibly be more worthy of celebration than making the life-changing decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior?

We incorporate baptism during several Sunday services each year and also arrange individual baptisms.

We baptize others just as Jesus was baptized, by being submerged in water. This symbolizes what takes place in our hearts at the time of salvation: the complete cleansing of sin from our hearts. When we go under the water, we share in Jesus’ death, and in coming up out of the water, we are resurrected and made brand new. It’s a powerful experience for both those who are being baptized and those who are there to share in the celebration.

While some churches practice infant christening as a way to ensure that a child enters the family of God, we believe that only a personal and informed acceptance of Christ’s death on the cross for our sins can do that. Our understanding of Scripture is that only those who can intentionally and knowingly accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior qualify for baptism.

During special Sunday services, we join with parents who are making a commitment to raise their children in accordance with the teachings of Scripture. We refer to these times of blessing and celebration as baby or child dedications. Watch our events page for upcoming dedication services.
